Why So Many Voles in Park City?

by John Walters | Jul 18, 2025 | Uncategorized

Most people that move here have never seen a problem like this. Other places have Voles and other rodents, but not in the numbers we have. Each Spring as the snow melts it leaves most Landscapes with damaged Lawns, eaten shrubs, and a few dead trees. No matter what they get it’s a mess and an added expense for the homeowner.

There are things that make PC a unique place for the little population to go full on plague every year. For starters we are a little short on predators. Coyotes, Fox, Bobcat, even birds of prey do not do lot of hunting in someones yard, and that’s during the summer months when they can be hunted. As we build homes we push back predators and their numbers drop. Making it easier for then to operate more boldly.

More homes = Less Predators More Homes also equals more food to support higher populations. During the winter, they are safe under the snow (no predators) eating your landscape plants, and reproducing as many as 50/1 ratio. So even if you have a half dozen to start with, by Spring you could be up to 200 mouths to feed… We have no snakes to control them,
